A trusted place for young people to turn.

The Abingdon Bridge helps young people across South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse build their wellbeing and feel connected to their communities. Its free counselling service gives young people and families access to support, while its youth work team works out in the community, creating safe places to connect with trusted adults. The charity’s mission goes beyond responding when young people are in crisis. It also listens to their experiences and considers how support can help prevent those situations in the first place.

The Challenge

More demand. Sensitive information. A team working across sites.

The Abingdon Bridge describes growing demand from young people who feel disconnected or need urgent support. It receives around 25-30 new referrals each month, while sustaining its services remains a significant funding challenge.

Behind that work is a team of more than 30 people handling sensitive case information. Staff need reliable ways to communicate with one another and external partners, access documents across multiple sites and keep information confidential.

Data handling also matters to the organisations that fund the charity. Technology needs to support its governance responsibilities without adding unnecessary complexity for a team whose expertise is working with people.

The Aura Solution

Built around the charity, not an off-the-shelf package.

Aura worked with The Abingdon Bridge to understand what the organisation needed and develop a bespoke package around those requirements. Through consultations, meetings and group calls, Aura helped the team make practical technology decisions, explaining its recommendations in language the charity could understand.

A plan shaped around the organisation

Clear, practical advice

Communication across multiple sites

Ongoing support when it is needed

The systems Aura set up make it easier for staff to communicate and access documents while working across multiple sites. The charity describes secure email structures and internal communication methods that help people working off site stay connected. Support continues beyond the initial setup. The team can contact Aura by phone or email when it needs help, with the charity describing the responses as quick and helpful.

The Result

Less friction behind the scenes. More focus on support.

The Abingdon Bridge reports better communication, faster ways to get things done and stronger platforms for its staff and young people.

Staff can access the documents they need without being in the same location, and information can move across the organisation more easily. The charity also describes technology as an important part of supporting its governance and data-handling responsibilities.

For a people-focused organisation, the value is practical: easier coordination, accessible information and the reassurance of having support available when it is needed.

Better communication

Easier communication across the organisation and between staff working at different sites.

Access to information

Documents and relevant information available to the people who need them.

Support for governance

Technology that supports the charity’s approach to confidential information and data handling.

Ongoing reassurance

A support team the charity can contact by phone or email.

When access to information matters.

In the interview, Gary describes a young person who had lost a safety plan developed with their therapist. Using the database and systems in place, the charity’s office team was able to retrieve it within seconds and email it to them.

It is a practical example of how access to information can support the charity’s work with young people.

“We’re better at communicating, we’re faster at getting what we need to get done, and we’re providing stronger platforms for our staff members and our young people.”

Gary Hibbins, The Abingdon Bridge

Looking Ahead

A foundation for the charity’s next chapter.

The Abingdon Bridge wants to expand its reach and work more collaboratively with other organisations. Its developing strategy puts young people’s voices at the heart of how it moves forward. Gary sees technology as a fundamental part of that foundation, with Aura potentially helping the charity navigate the opportunities ahead.
